The Russian reservists, the propaganda and the call to arms, the mobilization
The Russian industrial system is absolutely in crisis due to sanctions. It goes without saying that Tsar Vladimir’s logistics were painfully inadequate and that the training of officers and middle cadres of the Moscow army was still that of World War II. Experts have immediately warned that the mobilization announced by Putin was just propaganda in order to silence the Kremlin hawks who would have liked to drop atomic bombs on London and New York to win the war.
Mobilization requires conditions which are unavailable
Actually, the former Soviet military leaders know almost nothing about modern warfare. If new troops were truly deployed, they could only use AK47s against the 60-ton tanks and Ukrainian drones that would easily spot them. They wouldn’t have radio links and couldn’t maintain an effective coordination, as they could rely only on a badly patched up and accelerated training. In addition, the officers are not in better shape. Also it will take months to deploy the reservists on the ground who should take control of the borders. Russian citizens have stormed the airports trying to leave the country instead of dying for Putin: all this means that a certain number of people is aware of the situation.
Putin’s weak claims to awaken Russian patriotism
Stalin won the clash with Hitler by making his people pour rivers of blood, maintaining that the USSR had suffered German attack. But in the current conflict, Russia is responsible for an unacceptable aggression, while the propaganda has hidden the truth. Internet VPNs spread the Western version of the war and Russian people’s traditional patriotism has been tightly put to the test. It is hard to believe that the West wants to break up Russia, since it spans eleven time zones and such war would require to fight over some thousand square kilometers. Last but not least, how to reconcile the sentence “special military operation” with the threat of using atomic weapons? Although the Russians are more used to obeying than thinking, as Khrushchev’s granddaughter says, Putin is forcing them to do so, but the results are completely unpredictable.
Chiamata alle armi propagandistica per i riservisti russi
Che il sistema industriale russo sia in ginocchio a causa delle sanzioni non è un mistero. Che la logistica dello zar Vladimir sia stata penosamente insufficiente lo hanno dimostrato i fatti. E che l’addestramento degli ufficiali e dei quadri intermedi dell’esercito di Mosca fosse ancora quello della seconda guerra mondiale è apparso evidente. Gli esperti che seguono il conflitto hanno subito avvertito che la mobilitazione annunciata da Putin ha scopi di carattere propagandistico e serve a tacitare i falchi del Cremlino che vorrebbero sganciare ordigni atomici su Londra e New York per vincere la guerra.
La mobilitazione richiede requisiti di cui il Cremlino non dispone
La realtà è che i vertici militari ex sovietici quasi nulla sanno della guerra moderna. Se veramente venissero schierate nuove truppe, esse potrebbero disporre solo di AK47 contro i carri da 60 tonnellate e i droni ucraini che li individuerebbero facilmente. Sarebbero privi di collegamenti radio, impossibilitati a coordinarsi efficacemente, dotati di un addestramento malamente raffazzonato e accelerato, guidati da ufficiali che non sono in condizioni migliori. E infine ci vorranno mesi per schierare sul terreno i riservisti che dovrebbero prendere il controllo dei confini. Il fatto che gli aeroporti siano stati presi d’assalto dai russi che tentano di espatriare, non volendo morire per Putin, dimostra che una parte – probabilmente minoritaria – della nazione è cosciente della situazione.
Troppo deboli le motivazioni di Putin per risvegliare il patriottismo russo
Stalin vinse il confronto con Hitler facendo versare al suo popolo fiumi di sangue, giustificati dall’avere l’URSS subito l’aggressione tedesca. Ma nell’attuale conflitto è la Russia responsabile di un’inaccettabile aggressione e la propaganda fa fatica a nascondere la verità. I VPN della rete internet divulgano la versione occidentale della guerra e il tradizionale patriottismo del popolo russo viene messo a dura prova. Difficile credere che l’Occidente voglia disgregare la Russia, che si estende su undici fusi orari, combattendo una guerra su qualche migliaio di chilometri quadrati. E infine come possono convivere l’espressione “operazione militare speciale“ con la minaccia dell’uso di armi atomiche? Per quanto i russi siano abituati più a obbedire che a pensare, come afferma la nipote di Kruscev, Putin li sta costringendo a farlo con esiti del tutto imprevedibili.
