Paul Otelet and Henri La Fontaine from 1895 to 1945 they dedicated themselves to building an archive of world knowledge. Building on their unrealized plans since the early 20th century, Tan digitally designed and built a circular building to house this virtual archive. The Six Photoincisions of ‘Shadow Archive’ (2019) portray abandoned rooms with seemingly endless rows of lockers with tabs, which give viewers the impression of walking in the corridors of a real archive.
We move from Utopia and Dystopia to Atopia to Neue Schule für Fotografie Berlin (Brunnenstraße 188-190) with the exhibition, ‘Atopia’, of young artists who face the superimposition of time intrinsic to certain places, with photography and film as means to capture immediacy, circumstances and the ephemeral. The question is “How much discomfort can images still create today? Are there intergalactic intersections between plastic and fashion? And what happens in our minds, if the amorphous structures are transformed into projection screens and their substance dissolves?”.
Finally, at the Kühlhaus Berlin (Luckenwalder Straße 3) Foam Talent 2020, ‘Shaping the future of photography’, presents the new trends of contemporary photography by organizing a series of activities with a focus on young talent and with a rich range of genres and uses of photography, and is often characterized by a long search, centered on the role of the portrait.
