Fra i quattro Paesi più colpiti dalla pandemia, India e Brasile ne subiscono la gravità senza disporre di strumenti per difendersene.
La pandemia geopolitica, Cina v/s Usa
In una situazione umanitaria tanto disastrosa si innestano complicate questioni di geopolitica. Il governo indiano aveva richiesto a Joe Biden di revocare il divieto di esportazione dagli Usa di forniture sanitarie, ma il trumpiano America First questa volta è tornato utile anche al presidente democratico. Approfittando della situazione Pechino ha offerto agli indiani il proprio aiuto, anche perché New Delhi aveva prestato tempestivamente supporto a Wuhan nelle prime settimane della pandemia. Ma a causa delle tensioni cresciute fra i due giganti asiatici il governo indiano ha impedito alla Cina di ricambiare l’aiuto ricevuto. Il presidente americano si è affrettato a promettere un intervento sanitario massiccio nel subcontinente.
I grandi problemi dell’India
Com’era stato ampiamente previsto dai medici indiani, le manifestazioni collettive di natura religiosa svoltesi nelle ultime settimane hanno permesso al virus di travolgere completamente il sistema sanitario del subcontinente. Le infezioni e i decessi fanno registrare una crescita esponenziale mai vista, arrivando fino a 300.000 contagi al giorno per una settimana di seguito. Quaranta Paesi inviano ventilatori, ossigeno e medicine, ma gli aiuti internazionali non sono in grado di rallentare la velocità della diffusione del virus. Ad essa si aggiunge la genesi di due varianti, che hanno già oltrepassato i confini del Paese mettendo in allarme tutto il mondo ma, soprattutto, le nazioni confinanti. I diciannove milioni di infettati dovrebbero rapidamente raddoppiare, come anche, purtroppo, i 200.000 decessi. Negli ospedali mancano i letti e l’ossigeno e i vaccini disponibili sono insufficienti. I cadaveri sono cremati su pire improvvisate e la tensione psicologica generata da questa situazione è più che palpabile. Meno del 10% della popolazione ha ricevuto la prima dose vaccinale e meno del 2% la seconda. Quindi è probabile che il governo tagli le forniture verso l’estero per affrontare l’epidemia all’interno. Inutile ricordare che l’India è il maggior produttore di vaccini al mondo.
Bolsonaro sotto accusa
Ma le notizie più incredibili arrivano dal Brasile. Secondo fonti della CNN https://edition.cnn.com/2021/04/27/americas/bolsonaro-government-inquiry-into-covid-19-intl/index.html il presidente Jair Bolsonaro e i suoi collaboratori avrebbero messo in atto una vera e propria strategia di contagio sistematico della popolazione per conseguire la tristemente nota – e fallimentare – «immunità di gregge». Se ciò fosse dimostrato incontestabilmente come vero, il presidente potrebbe essere rimosso o messo sotto processo dalla Corte Suprema. Un gruppo di ricercatori non ha esitato ad accusarlo di crimini contro l’umanità.
In Brasile il Covid colpisce più che altrove la popolazione fra i 30 e i 59 anni, e questo è motivo di grande preoccupazione per tutti i ricercatori del mondo. Il Paese ha registrato più di 400.000 morti, solamente il 13% della popolazione ha ricevuto la prima dose del vaccino, il 6% la seconda dose. Al di là del tunnel non si intravede alcuna luce.

As was widely predicted by Indian doctors, the collective religious demonstrations, which have taken place in recent weeks, have allowed the virus to completely overwhelm the health system of the subcontinent. Infections and deaths record an exponential growth never seen before, reaching up to 300,000 infections a day for a week in a row. Forty countries send ventilators, oxygen, and medicines, but international aid is unable to slow the speed of the spread of the virus. Moreover, two new variants, which have already crossed the borders of the country, are alarming the whole world but, above all, neighboring nations. The number of infected people (19,000,000) is expected to double rapidly, as unfortunately the number of deaths (200,000). Hospitals lack beds and oxygen and available vaccines are insufficient. The corpses are cremated on improvised pyres and the psychological tension generated by this situation is more than palpable. Less than 10% of the population received the first vaccination dose and less than 2% the second. Therefore, the government is likely to cut off supplies abroad to tackle the epidemic internally. It goes without saying that India is the largest producer of vaccines in the world.
Bolsonaro is under attack
However, the most incredible news come from Brazil. If this is proved to be the indisputably truth, the president could be removed or put on trial by the Supreme Court. A group of researchers did not hesitate to accuse him of crimes against humanity.
