Si sono appena chiuse le iscrizioni al Word of WearableArt Award (WOW), un concorso unico al mondo che premia i più impensabili abiti di scena. WOW si svolge in Nuova Zelanda, a Wellington, e attrae i migliori talenti internazionali, creativi nel campo della moda e del design.
Le regole del concorso sono: iscriversi in tempo, scegliere uno dei temi fra quelli proposti (tre dei quali ricorrenti), formare un team con altri due designer e creare un capo completo cioè l’opera d’arte indossabile.
Dal 1987, anno della prima edizione, WOW riunisce stilisti visionari partecipanti al concorso e li combina con artisti della danza, del teatro, della musica, rendendoli protagonisti della maggiore produzione teatrale neozelandese – Word of WearableArt Award Show – che quest’anno si terrà dal 30 settembre al 17 ottobre, con tredici date. Sono attesi sessantamila spettatori. A sfilare sul palco saranno le migliori idee, le più immaginabili opere indossabili, che vivranno sul corpo di ballerini, attori, artisti circensi nello show.
La fondatrice di WOW è Dame Suzie Moncrieff DNZM (Suzanne Elizabeth Dick), scultrice e imprenditrice d’arte neozelandese che ha istituito WOW Awards allo scopo di creare una galleria d’arte collettiva con opere spostate dalle immobili pareti ai corpi in movimento.
The applications for the Word of WearableArt Award (WOW), a unique competition in the world that rewards the most unthinkable stage costumes, have just closed. WOW takes place in New Zealand, in Wellington, and attracts the best international talent, creative in the field of fashion and design.
The rules of the competition are: register on time, choose one of the themes proposed (three of which are recurring), form a team with two other designers and create a complete garment – a wearable piece of art.
Since 1987, the year of the first edition, WOW brings together visionary stylists participating in the competition and combines them with artists of dance, theatre, music, making them the protagonists of the major New Zealand theatrical production – Word of WearableArt Award Show – which this year will be held from September 30 to October 17, with thirteen dates. Sixty thousand spectators are expected. Parade on stage will be the best ideas, the most imaginable wearable works, which will live on the body of dancers, actors, circus artists in the show.
WOW founder, also leader of the jury award, is Dame Suzie Moncrieff DNZM (Suzanne Elizabeth Dick) a New Zealand sculptor and art entrepreneur. She set up WOW Awards in order to create a local cooperative art gallery, by moving works from stable walls to bodies in movement.
