Gentile Signor Presidente,
i suoi recenti commenti e alcune delle decisioni che ha preso e le implementazioni della sua struttura di potere, mi hanno spinto a comporre e indirizzare questa lettera aperta.
I suoi sforzi per l’immagine durante gli ultimi due mesi dell’anno
Senza mezzi termini, si è lamentato: “Non siamo stati in grado di stabilire il nostro potere intellettuale in 18 anni”. Poi ha istituito una nuova fondazione d’arte per il “potere intellettuale” a questo scopo, e İbrahim Kalın, che è il suo portavoce, ha preso posto come membro del consiglio di questa fondazione. Questo il suo obiettivo: “Contribuire alla cultura e all’economia artistica della Turchia con un approccio orientato alla formazione e alla produzione, alimentato dalla comprensione universale di arte e cultura, alimentato dai valori e dagli elementi costitutivi della nostra antica civiltà”. È risultato chiaro che né un’immagine rispettabile della Turchia potrebbe essere raggiunta a livello mondiale, né la fiducia potrebbe essere stabilita all’interno del Paese, finché ci sono persone intorno a lei che cercano solo potere politico e materiale. Quindi, con una seconda mossa, ha imposto un barlume di speranza dichiarando che le decisioni dei tribunali e lo “stato di diritto” vengano ora rispettati, riassumendo il tutto con queste parole: “Sia servita la giustizia, anche se il prezzo è Doomsday”, come dichiarato da lei e dal Ministro della giustizia, Sig. Gül. Subito dopo, con un terzo tentativo, di nuovo riassunto come la “mossa dell’UE”, ha rafforzato, sig. Presidente, il concetto di “costruire una percezione positiva”. Il suo portavoce Kalın è andato a Bruxelles e ha incontrato i funzionari dell’UE. Inviando messaggi cordiali all’UE e agli USA, lei ha dichiarato ad amici e nemici di tutto il mondo che vede il futuro in linea con l’UE. Sebbene una parte significativa dei suoi elettori, agitata dai pesanti dibattiti anti-UE e anti-occidentali che ha spesso tenuto, abbia trovato questo approccio un po’ strano, non hanno spinto troppo perché erano abituati alle sue ricorrenti “maree politiche”. Poi è arrivato il momento della sua quarta mossa. Negli ultimi giorni dell’anno, durante la cerimonia dei Presidential Culture and Art Awards, ha affermato: “L’artista che ci aspettiamo mostrerà la sua opposizione non con polemiche politiche che diffonde dal suo account sui social media, ma con l’arte con la quale lui o lei ci trascina”, e ha anche affermato che si aspetta artisti che non “disprezzano la nazione”. Scusi, ancora a dicembre, contrariamente ai suoi commenti precedenti, ha ascoltato la Presidential Symphony Orchestra con grande rispetto e attenzione, e si è vantato dell’importanza che attribuisce alla musica. Ancora una volta, nello stesso periodo, vorrei ringraziarla soprattutto come amante degli animali; lei ha adottato un cane disabile, Leblebi (Chickpea), e ha mostrato affetto a questo cane insieme alla First Lady. Voglio assicurarle che i miei ringraziamenti qui non hanno implicazioni ciniche.
Domande che non corrispondono ai suoi obiettivi!
Signor Presidente, con i Suoi comportamenti sopra menzionati, che ritiene si completino a vicenda, spero che un giorno dirotterà davvero il nostro Paese verso uno stato di liceità di pensatori, artisti e musicisti e che sia finalmente riconosciuto anche dall’Occidente; non vedo l’ora di pronunciare questa speranza, tuttavia, e al contrario, tutte le pratiche contraddittorie che sono state vissute in campo politico, mi rendono seriamente scettico su questo tema. Le espressioni che ha usato mentre distribuiva i premi agli artisti, alimentano queste esitazioni. Signor Presidente, se cerca “potere intellettuale”, “rispetto dell’Occidente”, “dialogo con il mondo degli artisti”, allora vorrei portare alla sua attenzione i seguenti fatti: se le decisioni del tribunale non vengono rispettate nei casi di Enis Berberoğlu, Osman Kavala e Selahattin Demirtaş; se un medico settario è nominato a capo del GATA (l’ospedale militare), che prende in giro i repubblicani rispettabili con i suoi post sui social media; se le donne bigotte che osano dire che “stanno preparando condanne a morte e che trasformeranno alcuni quartieri in arene di sangue” sulla sharia filogovernativa che favorisce la libera circolazione dei canali televisivi; se a coloro che ricominciano i dibattiti nel braccio della morte “prendendo di mira le persone” in ogni occasione viene dato un sostegno dubbio; se la violenza contro le donne ogni giorno toglie la vita a persone innocenti, se vengono avanzate ogni sorta di scuse e commenti distorti per firmare la Convenzione di Istanbul, se inoltre la polizia esercita ogni tipo di violenza sulle donne che rivendicano i propri diritti manifestando per le strade; mentre Hagia Sophia viene nuovamente aperta al culto, se il suo imam maledice chiaramente i fondatori della Repubblica, e poi dà spudoratamente sostegno a un accademico che sarebbe un miserabile che propone “il cadavere di Yılmaz Özdil (famoso giornalista e scrittore dell’opposizione) non dovrebbe essere ammesso nella moschea per il suo funerale “come giusto ” e se questo imam non viene licenziato nonostante queste gravi provocazioni di odio; se alcuni governatori distrettuali o provinciali, che considerano la collocazione di fiori e ghirlande sul monumento di Atatürk, il padre fondatore di questo Paese, come un crimine, possono ancora essere nominati; se il Centro culturale Atatürk e il Teatro all’aperto Rumeli Hisarı, alcuni dei pochissimi posti dove il Paese poteva ancora respirare ossigeno artistico, furono chiusi per motivi che resero tutti scontenti; se la maggior parte delle scuole superiori pubbliche e anatoliche fossero state convertite con la forza e irragionevolmente in scuole superiori İmam-Hatip (scuole superiori professionali religiose); se il parlamentare dell’AKP Cengiz Aydoğdu potesse fare una dichiarazione schietta dicendo che “la Sharia (la legge islamica) è la nostra legge”; se le persone che hanno preso parte alla struttura politica del governo fossero nominate presidi delle università più illuminate e progressiste del Paese, nonostante le grandi reazioni degli studenti e del personale accademico; se i leader dei due partiti alleati che rappresentano il governo umiliano costantemente il partito dell’opposizione diffondendo dichiarazioni immorali su questo partito storico, se possono agitare il popolo con odio senza esitazione dicendo “La radice del CHP (Partito Repubblicano del Popolo) è improduttiva e sterile”; se le istituzioni che rappresentano il punto di vista del governo nel Paese possono impegnarsi in campagne inimmaginabili contro i giornali che svolgono il loro dovere di opposizione e se possono imporre tutti i tipi di punizione e metodi di pressione nei confronti di tali pubblicazioni; se le aree verdi e le baie più preziose del Paese possono essere offerte ai detentori del potere in modo che nuovi palazzi vengano costruiti nonostante tutti gli avvertimenti della popolazione locale e delle associazioni di ecologia; se le cause legali senza contenuto possono essere sollevate e persino concluse con condanne contro scrittori leggendari come Necati Doğru ed Emin Çölaşan con l’accusa di essere membri della FETO (Fethullah Gülenist Terrorist Organization); se l’Aeroporto “Ataturk”, uno degli aeroporti più frequentati al mondo e parte essenziale della ricchezza nazionale, viene reso obsoleto e distrutto a causa di un’allergia al suo nome e si sta costruendo con la forza un nuovo aeroporto estremamente costoso e pomposo; come una commedia che il mondo non ha mai visto prima, se va bene mostrare crimini sanguinosi come pugnalate alla TV, mentre le scene che contengono consumo di alcol sono sfocate e camuffate; se nella tua descrizione dell’artista, un “buon artista” per essere precisi, significa ignorare il fatto che una persona pensante può esprimere opinioni critiche molto diverse dalle forze dominanti in politica e se si definiscono le opinioni di Fikri Sağlar (ex ministro della Cultura e membro del Parlamento del CHP) che osa ancora pensare in modo diverso da lei in questo Paese, non aspirare alla critica, ma fare delle sue espressioni critiche (sul velo) oggetto di contenzioso …
Conclusione
Signor Presidente, devo menzionare altri esempi? Per favore si renda conto adesso di questa situazione. Finché tutto questo è vissuto in Turchia, non c’è modo, nemmeno lontanamente, che lei possa stabilire ciò che chiama il suo “potere intellettuale”. È impossibile per lei stabilire un sano dialogo con gli artisti. È impossibile per l’Occidente riservare un posto al nostro Paese nell’UE rispettando lei e le sue azioni. E la cosa più importante di tutte: non ci sarà pace, felicità o serenità per la gente di questo Paese. Pertanto, se vuole veramente raggiungere gli obiettivi di speranza che si è prefissato, le suggerisco di riconsiderare “cosa dovrebbe e non dovrebbe essere fatto” nella sua nuova lista di cose da fare. Dear Mr. President,
Your recent comments and some of the decisions you made and implementations of your power structure, urged me to compose and address this open letter to you.
Your efforts for image during the last two months of the year
Bluntly, you complained;“We were not able to establish our intellectual power in 18 years”. Then you founded a new art foundation for “intellectual power” for this purpose, and İbrahim Kalın, who is your spokesperson, took place as a board member in this foundation. Your objective was announced as “Contributing to Turkey’s culture and art economy with a training and production-oriented approach, powered by the universal understanding of art & culture, that is fed by values and building blocks of our ancient civilization.” It has become clear that neither a respectable image could be achieved in the world, nor even trust could be established within the country, as long as there are people around you who only seek political and material power. Then, with a second move, you imposed a glimpse of hope that the court decisions and the “state of law” will now be respected, with your outlook summarized as “Let justice be served, even if the price for it is Doomsday,” as pronounced by you and Minister of Justice, Mr. Gül. Immediately after that, with a third attempt, again summarized as the “EU move”, you enforced your “building a positive perception” effort. Your spokesperson Kalın went to Brussels and met with the EU officials. By sending warm messages to the EU and the USA, you declared to friends and foes around the globe that you see your future in line with the EU. Although a significant part of your voters, agitated by the heavy anti-EU and anti-Western debates you often made, found this approach somewhat strange, they did not push it too much since they were used to your recurrent political tides. Then it was time for your fourth move. In the last few days of the year, you said during the Presidential Culture and Art Awards ceremony, “The artist we expect will show his opposition not with the political polemics s/he scatters from his/her social media account, but with the art s/he blows us away with”, and you also stated that you are expecting artists who do not “despise the nation”. Sorry, and again in December, contrary to your previous comments, you listened to the Presidential Symphony Orchestra with great respect and attention, and bragged about the importance you attach to music.
Again, in the same period, I hereby would like to thank you especially as an animal lover; you adopted a disabled dog, Leblebi (Chickpea), and you showed affection to this dog together with the First Lady. I want to assure you, that my thanks here have no cynical implications.
Applications that do not match with your goals!
Mr. President,
With your behaviors mentioned above, which you believe complement each other, I hope that one day you will really divert our country towards a state of law full of thinkers, artists and musicians and is also finally recognized by the West; I am eager to pronounce this hope of mine, however and to the contrary, all the contradictory practices that have been experienced in the political arena, make me seriously skeptical about this issue. The expressions you used while handing out awards to the artists, incite those hesitations.
Mr. President, if you are looking for “intellectual power”, “respect by the West”, “dialogue with the world of the artists”, then I would like to bring to your attention the following facts:
if the court’s decisions are not respected in the cases of Enis Berberoğlu, Osman Kavala and Selahattin Demirtaş; if a sectarian doctor is appointed as the head of GATA (the military hospital), who makes fun of respectable Republican people with his social media posts; if the bigoted women who dare to say that “they are preparing death lists and that they will turn some neighborhoods into blood arenas” on pro-government sharia favoring television channels run around freely; if those who initiate again the death row debates by “targeting people” at every opportunity are given dubious support; if violence against women takes the lives of innocent people every day, if all kinds of excuses and distorted comments are put forward in order not to sign the Istanbul Convention; if in addition, all kinds of violence is asserted by the police on women seeking their rights by demonstrating on the streets; while Hagia Sophia is being opened to worship again, if its imam clearly curses the founders of the Republic, and then shamelessly gives support to a would be miserable academician who proposes “Yılmaz Özdil’s (famous opposition journalist and writer) corpse should not be permitted in the mosque for his funeral” as “righteous” and if this İmam is not dismissed from office despite these severe provocations of hatred; if some district or provincial governors, who consider placing flowers and wreaths at the monument of Atatürk, the founding father of this country, as a crime, can still be appointed; if the Atatürk Cultural Center and the Rumeli Hisarı Open-Air Theater, some of the very few spots where the country could still inhale artistic oxygen, were closed for reasons that satisfied nobody; if most of public and Anatolian high schools were forcibly and unreasonably converted into İmam-Hatip high schools (religious vocational high schools); if AKP parliamentary Cengiz Aydoğdu could make a blunt statement saying “Sharia (Islamic law) is our law”; if people who took part in the political structuring of the government were appointed as deans to the most enlightened and progressive universities in the country, despite great student and academic staff reactions; if the leaders of the two allying parties representing the government constantly humiliate the opposition party by spreading immoral statements about this historical party, if they can agitate the people with hatred without hesitation saying “The root of the CHP (Republican Party of the People) is unproductive and infertile”; if the institutions representing the view of the government in the country can engage in unimaginable campaigns against the newspapers carrying out their opposition duty, and if they can impose all kinds of punishment and pressure methods towards those publications; if the most valuable green areas and bays of the country can be offered to the holders of power so that new palaces would be built despite all the warnings of the local people and ecology associations; if law suit cases without content can be brought up and even concluded with convictions against legendary writers such as Necati Doğru and Emin Çölaşan with allegations of them being members of the FETO (Fethullah Gülenist Terrorist Organization); if the “Ataturk” Airport, one of the most popular airports in the world and essential part of the national wealth, is made obsolete and destroyed due to an allergy to its name and a new airport hugely expensive and pompous is being built by force; like a comedy that the world has never ever seen before, if it is okay to show bloody crimes like stabbingson TVs, whereas scenes containing alcohol consumption are blurred and disguised; if in your description of the artist, a “good artist” to be precise; means ignoring the fact that a thinking person can express critical opinions very different from the dominant forces in politics and if you define the opinions of Fikri Sağlar (Former Minister of Culture and Parliament member of CHP) who still dares to think differently from you in this country, not a spure criticism, but make his critical expressions (about the veil) a subject for litigation…
Conclusion
Mr. President, do I need to mention more examples? Please perceive this situation now. As long as all this is experienced in Turkey, there’s no way, not even remotely close, that you can establish what you call your “intellectual power”. It is impossible for you to establish a healthy dialogue with the artists. It is impossible for the West to reserve a place for our country in the EU by respecting you and your actions. And most important of all; there will be no peace, happiness or serenity for the people of this country.
Therefore, if you really want to achieve the hopeful goals you have set before you, I suggest you reconsider “what should and should not be done” on your new to-do list.
